Cambridge’s very own Speakers’ Corner
I had to get out the office for some fresh air at lunchtime. This resulted in a walk to Cherry Hinton – a local village near work. For those not familiar, it’s a bit of a slum. I once came up with a challenge to make the walk more interesting where you’d walk through to the main village and get points for random crap that you see in slum places. For example:
- 2 points for an England flag
- 5 points for a dog leashed with a piece of string in a garden
- 10 points for an old rug
- 15 points for a home appliance (rusty) out in the garden, or the side of house
- 30 bonus points if more than one appliance
- 30 points for a car in the front garden with at least 1 tyre missing
- 10 bonus points each for very long grass in the garden (where car looks like a feature)
- 10 bonus points if the car is a Vauxhall or Ford
- 100 bonus points in the car is Japanese (as they never break down)
Anyways, you get the idea.
Today was far more interesting though ! In this case, the middle of Cherry Hinton had it’s very own speaker hurling various religious views. I kind of found it amusing, so had to take a picture (forgive poor quality annotations):
