Penny foolish, Pound foolish

So I get the council tax bill in the other day. Living in the UK means that you’re constantly hit with taxes. Whether it be 17.5% sales (VAT) tax, 40% income tax, National Insurance. However, these taxes I don’t really see as they are taken automatically. What I hate about Council Tax is that they hit you with a large bill every year:

Of course they stick some silly brochure along with the bill (no doubt needing a staff of 15 people to create it) telling you about all the great things they are doing. I do love the 69p reduction in parish dues. Great, I’ll be using that to buy a pint of milk. The English language creates such opportunities for commentary, specifically “If you have difficulties paying this bill”. I was thinking of calling them up and indicating that of course I have difficulties paying such a large bill, just in principle !
